David Emerson writes … > I am looking to buy an install set for Irix 6.5… to be used on an > Octane/225 w/512MB RAM and a 9GB disk. You need … The base IRIX 6.5 disks: Installation tools Foundation 1 Foundation 2 Applications Development tools: Development Libraries Development Foundation You might like: NFS Base Documentation SNMP Access to HP-UX The above is what I think of as a “base set” and will install 6.5. Then, you’ll want a set of disks for the latest revision that will suit your hardware; I think that’s 6.5.26. but it might be 6.5.22. You can get 6.5.22 maintenance disks from the SGI website, once you sign up for their free “Supportfolio” service. You can get patches from the same place. GCC and other freeware can be had at freeware.sgi.com, but it’s not all up-to-date. You’ll probably want to install from source anything you expose to the Internet. -Shel
